Question: We are allowing our 17-year-old son to have an otoplasty as he is very self-conscious about his ears. I?d like to time the procedure so that this has little to no impact to school or sports. How long is the recovery period? When can he play sports again, soccer and basketball? Answer: Typically after an otoplasty we make the patients wear a headband for possibly a week and try to avoid contact sports for a few weeks after that. For school age children these are best performed during the summer months.
