I am scheduled for my facelift next month. I know one of the risks of the surgery is a hematoma. In what period of post-operative recovery does a hematoma dissolve? Is this something that dissolves right away or could it pop up months after the surgery?
Most hematomas occur immediately after the surgery or after the first night after the surgery. It is possible that they could happen at some later stage but most of the time it is something relatively soon after the surgery. It is something that sometimes can be avoided by avoiding blood pressure changes and by avoiding blood thinners prior to surgery. Men have a higher risk of hematomas.
