I recently had to get stitches in my hand. The scar does not look good at all. It is very dark red and there are little bumps on one end. Could this be a keloid scar? Is there anything I can do to stop it from getting worse?

There are many ways to treat these types of scars. This may not be a true keloid scar but rather a hypertrophic scar which is sort of an overgrown scar. Treatment options include injections of steroids or laser treatments, to laser resurfacing or excision. It all depends on what the scar looks like. Sometimes we tape these early scars or use some silicone sheeting. The best approach is to come in for a consultation for evaluation.
